
AGU Hosts Two Workshops to Develop Effective Problem-Based Learning

The Department of Medical Education at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has successfully organised two specialised training workshops: Developing Effective Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Cases, as part of its faculty development program.
The workshops were inaugurated by Professor Abdel Halim Salem Deifalla, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences who highlighted the significance of integrating PBL as a modern educational tool that fosters students' critical thinking, as well as clinical and applied skills.
Attended by college faculty members, the sessions featured presentations by distinguished academics and experts, such as Professor Hani Salem Atwa, Head of the Department of Medical Education, Professor Mohamed Hany Shehata, Head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and Dr Archana Kumar, Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education. They reviewed the fundamentals of designing effective PBL cases, and methods for developing suitable scenarios tailored to various courses.
The workshops included practical activities, presentations, the development of a comprehensive teacher’s guide, besides analysis and evaluation of educational problems. They aimed to enhance faculty members' ability to design and implement integrated educational cases aligned with modern medical education strategies.
The sessions received high engagement from attendees, who commended the quality and depth of the scientific and practical content. Participants expressed appreciation for how the workshops enriched their teaching practices.
This event reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of its medical education and develop the skills of its academic staff to keep pace with the latest educational trends adopted by leading medical colleges worldwide.
