Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Supreme Council of Health Chairman, Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, attended the Arabian Gulf University’s ceremony for the 38th graduating cohort, held on Sunday at Exhibition World Bahrain.

A total of 218 students received their degrees, including 179 medical graduates and 37 post-graduates who earned higher diplomas, master’s degrees and doctorates in various specialisations. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council, His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of AGU.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health praised the university’s pivotal role in supplying the Kingdom’s healthcare system with highly qualified cadres, in line with the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and the aspirations of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Since its establishment in 1980, AGU has graduated 3,745 doctors, contributing significantly to the advancement of healthcare across GCC member states. He further highlighted the university’s symbolic status as a beacon of GCC cooperation, fulfilling the lofty vision of the region’s leaders.

For his part, Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Higher Education Council stated: “We are pleased to share AGU’s joy as it celebrates a new cohort of graduates who embody the fruits of joint Gulf investment and stand as a living testament to scientific cooperation and integration among GCC countries. Proudly hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, AGU has cemented its regional stature as a pioneering academic institution that enriches the healthcare sector with highly qualified professionals through advanced educational programmes and applied research that serve the region’s development priorities.”

He added that the university continues to play a vital role in advancing key sectors, particularly education, technology and innovation, through its expanding portfolio of postgraduate studies and distinctive academic programmes that address strategic challenges facing Gulf societies. He affirmed Bahrain’s unwavering support for AGU as a successful regional model that bolsters Gulf cooperation, fosters academic and scientific synergy, and contributes effectively to building a more prosperous and sustainable future for the region and its peoples.

On behalf of the university, HE Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid extended deepest gratitude to His Majesty the King for the Royal patronage and generous support that empower AGU to fulfil its educational and research mission. He also expressed profound pride in HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s gracious patronage of the graduation ceremony, describing it as a badge of honour and a powerful incentive for continued excellence.

HE Dr Al Fuhaid pledged that AGU would persist in supplying GCC nations with competent national talents and future leaders, lauding the remarkable achievements of the university’s alumni across diverse fields. He congratulated the graduates, wishing them prosperous careers and urging them to serve as exemplary ambassadors for their alma mater.

Graduates Manar Ibrahim Bahr, Rashid Abdulwahab Al-Asousi and Shaimaa Khalid Abdullah delivered valedictory addresses on behalf of their peers.

The ceremony concluded with the Supreme Council of Health Chairman honouring the Dean’s List from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences. His Excellency the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council participated in honouring the AGU graduates, followed by the recitation of the physician’s oath by 179 new doctors, led by AGU Vice-President Dr Ghazi Alotaibi.
