Dr. Reem Al Ansari Receives PhD from Harvard University Hospital in Simulation-Based Medical Education

Reem Al Ansari, a doctor trained at the Medical Skills and Simulation Centre at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), won the Best Poster Award at the Clinical Research Day 2024 at Massachusetts General Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, in conjunction with her obtaining a Health Professions Education PhD, specialising in Simulation-Based Medical Education.

Dr. Al Ansari expressed deep gratitude to the administration of AGU, which sent her on a scholarship to America to study this new and innovative specialisation, preceded by a master’s degree and a fellowship from Harvard Medical School. She praised AGU’s commitment to supporting hardworking Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) cadres who are passionate about science and education and long to achieve academic excellence based on innovation.

Dr. Reem Al Ansari is a doctor and radiologist, having completed a clinical fellowship in medical simulation in 2020, and a master’s degree in medical education in 2021 from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. She holds medical degrees from King Faisal University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Board in the fields of diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. 

During her doctoral studies, she worked at Harvard Medical School as a lecturer, and at the Harvard Macy Institute as a faculty member. She was an active member of the research team that received a grant from the Sullivan Academy, which focuses on medical and health education research in the USA.

In her professional career, Dr. Al Ansari focuses on strengthening health professions education models. She works to develop medical simulation curricula and cultivate educational environments within the field of health care, due to her belief in the role of young doctors in shaping the future of medical education and health professions, in a way that empowers the next generation to succeed in an ever-evolving environment.

It is noteworthy that since its inception, AGU has established a scholarship programme to send its distinguished cadres to prestigious international universities to transfer knowledge to the GCC community, and to unite distinguished leaders who make a qualitative addition to higher education in the Gulf in a manner meeting the needs of the economic transformation in the region, in accordance with the vision of GCC leaders, which aims to shift from an oil-based economy to one based on investment in innovative sciences.
