Students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) hosted an educational initiative titled "Sleepology: Encoding Your Sleep," under the supervision of Dr Yahya Naguib, Professor in the Department of Physiology.

The event featured the participation of 30 male and female students who delivered scientific and health-related content through an interactive format that successfully integrated educational insights with engaging activities.

Noor Al Zahra Jaffar, a third-year medical student and Chairperson of the Organising Committee, clarified that the event focused on insomnia as one of the most widespread sleep disorders. The presentation detailed its definition, various types, root causes, and symptoms, alongside proper management techniques. Additionally, the initiative shed light on maladaptive practices used to address insomnia and worked to correct several common misconceptions prevalent within the university student community.

She added: "The awareness programme facilitated in-depth discussions on balancing academic requirements with clinical obligations while maintaining healthy and consistent sleep patterns. It further underscored the significance of meditation and relaxation exercises in alleviating anxiety and stress, sharpening focus and attention, and enhancing overall sleep quality".

The event also featured an interactive student debate titled: "Who studies more effectively: those who stay up late at night to study, or those who wake up early to study at dawn?".

The debate drew participation from a diverse group of students alongside members of the academic and administrative faculties, characterised by profound scientific and analytical discourse.

Furthermore, student volunteers conducted guided meditation and relaxation sessions in a designated 'practical experience' corner, designed to introduce participants to streamlined and effective techniques for optimising sleep quality and bolstering psychological well-being.
