AGU Launches Accredited Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education Programme

The Department of Medical Education at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has introduced the internationally recognised Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education Programme, accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators in the UK (AoME). This initiative demonstrates the university’s dedication to developing faculty expertise and enhancing the quality of medical education.
The programme was launched as part of an innovative collaboration with the university’s Training and Consultancy Centre, titled ‘Fundamental Abilities in Medical Education’ (FAME). It is a comprehensive, progressive curriculum focusing on three core areas: teaching and learning; curriculum and course design; and student assessment.
Professor Dr Mohammed Saleh Madadin, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, emphasising the university’s commitment to developing academic offerings aligned with global standards while strengthening its reputation as a leader in medical education and professional development. He extended gratitude to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, as well as the University President, for their support of these initiatives.
For his part, Dr Mohamed Mostafa Al-Eraky, Head of the Medical Education Department, affirmed that obtaining international accreditation from AoME is a significant milestone. He noted that the Academy is a prominent global body dedicated to ensuring excellence in medical education and has provided support to distinguished UK institutions such as Cambridge, Bristol, and Sheffield.
Delivered in English, the programme offers an engaging blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. It is planned and presented by a distinguished team of experts, namely: Dr Mohamed Mostafa Al-Eraky, Head of the Medical Education Department, Dr Hany Salem Atwa, Professor of Medical Education, Dr Archana Prabu Kumar, Associate Professor in the Medical Education Department, and Dr Reem Jassim Al-Ansari, Assistant Professor and Head of the Medical Skills and Simulation Centre.
Registration is open to all faculty members, both within and outside the university. Participants will receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, along with attendance certificates featuring credit hours accredited by the National Health Regulatory Authority of Bahrain.
