Dr Abdulrahman Yousif, Vice President for Administrative Affairs and Dean of Student Affairs at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), welcomed Dr Maryam Al Hajri, Vice President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society.
The meeting, attended by several members of the administrative and academic staff from the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences of AGU, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two parties to enhance community partnership through various health, humanitarian, and charitable initiatives in the future.
During the meeting, Dr Yousif praised the significant role played by the Bahrain Diabetes Society in raising awareness and promoting health culture through its distinguished initiatives.
He expressed his appreciation for the society's efforts in supporting health initiatives and emphasised the importance of community partnership in hosting events aimed at health education and awareness.
He stated, "The Bahrain Diabetes Society has achieved great success in the fields of developmental charitable work by fulfilling its national duty to help the community prevent diabetes and reduce its complications."
He noted that the society has continued to provide support and assistance to diabetes patients, particularly children, to help them manage and coexist safely with the condition.
For her part, Dr Al Hajri highlighted that AGU places significant importance on the issue of diabetes as one of the most critical public health concerns affecting individuals and communities. She pointed out that diabetes prevalence in Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is on the rise, making it a national issue at the individual, governmental, and community levels.
She further explained that the Bahrain Diabetes Society, in collaboration with medical universities and public health entities, aims to enhance the quality of services and programmes provided to raise health awareness about diabetes prevention and to mitigate its complications.
"The society works to empower patients with skills to cope with the disease and face its challenges by emphasising the importance of self-care skills and healthy lifestyle practices, including regular exercise and nutritious diets that individuals with diabetes and their families can adopt to live better with the condition, avoid complications, and improve the quality of life for patients," she stated.
