President of AGU Honours Members of Former College of Medicine and Medical Sciences Student Council and Stresses the Role of Youth in Driving Innovation and Creativity

His Excellency the President of Arabian Gulf University (AGU), Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, honoured the members of the former Student Council of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences at the end of their term for the academic year 2023-2024, in appreciation of their contributions to the university community as well as Bahraini and Gulf society, in accordance with the strategy to enhance the environment for learning and innovation.

The honours for outstanding students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences came during a ceremony held this November, attended by members of the academic and administrative staff and students of the college. The President commended the role of the Student Council in introducing distinguished student initiatives and maintaining the pristine reputation of the college, commenting, “The Student Council of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences represents a driving force for innovation and creativity inside and outside the university campus, and contributes to enhancing effective community participation and promoting a culture of social innovation. We believe that these youths are the future of the medical sector in the Gulf, and these honours constitute encouragement to continue their sincere efforts towards successful student activities and initiatives, and fulfilling personal and professional goals.”

He stressed the importance of cooperation between the University Administration and the Student Council in improving the academic environment, simultaneously pointing out the necessity of students’ voice as an essential part of the decision-making process contributing to the university’s vision and mission. 

Dr Al Fuhaid affirmed that the formation of student councils is a vital step towards enhancing the societal role of university students and enhancing their citizenship in society. He praised the role of student councils in serving the Gulf community, embodied in the implementation of many targeted initiatives that develop social awareness and increase interaction between students and the larger Gulf community. These councils comprise a platform for participation and engagement in beneficial volunteer work through health awareness campaigns, initiatives and scientific and medical events that highlight human and social values, in addition to developing leadership skills and effective communication among students.

For their part, the former Student Council members expressed their deep thanks to the President, the College Administration and the Deanship of Student Affairs for their continuous support, stressing that these honours incentivise them to move towards further achievements in service of the Gulf community. They accepted certificates of appreciation as an expression of the university's recognition of their distinguished efforts in serving the students of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
