Prof. Amjad Albaz, Head of the Internal Medicine Department at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), participated in the 56th Annual Conference of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) held in San Diego, USA. The event attracted a global audience, with over 15,000 kidney specialists from around the world in attendance, marking it as the largest annual gathering of nephrologists.

During the conference, Prof. Albaz presented the findings of his research titled “A Study on the Quality of Life of Kidney Donors Post-Donation”. He adapted a previously established questionnaire to assess quality of life after kidney donation, with all participating donors confirming their voluntary donation and expressing no remorse regarding their choice.

The study revealed that kidney donors achieved high scores in quality of life, averaging between 73.1 and 96.9 on a scale of 1 to 100. Most kidney donors reported a positive experience over the past four decades, suggesting that these findings could further support organ donation in the future.

Prof. Albaz noted that the conference provided an excellent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among physicians, maximising scientific and intellectual communication among participants. He highlighted that a key feature of the conference is its focus on the latest advancements in the field of nephrology, alongside discussions on the most recent research outcomes from the year, thereby enabling physicians to stay abreast of innovative and scientifically validated developments in their field.
