The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) organised an awareness event to enhance understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within the community, school students and children. The initiative was led by students from the Autism Programme at the College of Education and Administrative and Technical Sciences, along with students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, who are keen to spread awareness and promote scientific and human understanding of this disorder.
The event featured a scientific presentation that explored the historical evolution of understanding autism, highlighting key theories and recent studies. Visitors also participated in an interactive simulation experience that mimicked certain aspects of autism, allowing them to engage with the sensory realities faced by individuals with autism and enhance their levels of empathy.

The event included notable scientific contributions from Dr Wid Daghustani and Dr Maryam Al Sherawi, who presented research discussions on the latest developments in research and modern intervention strategies in the field of autism spectrum disorder, adding a rich scientific dimension to the event.
AGU affirmed that this initiative aims to reshape societal perceptions of autism, recognising it as a human difference rather than an illness. The university commended the efforts of the students in organising this event, which embodies its values in supporting issues of diversity and social inclusion.”
