The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) is set to host the international training workshop “Essentials of Space Medicine”, organised by the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), AGU, Azercosmos – the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Space Park X Foundation. The event will be held at the Princess Al Jawhara Al Ibrahim Centre for Molecular Medicine, Genetics and Inherited Disorders (ACMID) next Sunday (May 25, 2025), with the practical sessions continuing until May 27, 2025, at the university’s Simulation and Medical Skills Centre.
The workshop provides participants with the opportunity to explore one of the most advanced and innovative branches of medicine. Space medicine is a promising field that opens new research and scientific horizons intersecting with specialised areas of human medicine. Participants will have the chance to engage directly with international experts, exchange expertise, and explore prospects for regional and international cooperation in future projects.
This first-of-its-kind workshop in the Arab world brings together a distinguished group of experts in the field of space medicine, including Dr Elshad Allahyarov and Dr Kenan Yusif-zada, who possess extensive academic and scientific experience in studying the effects of space environments on the human body and developing healthcare solutions beyond Earth.
His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of AGU, affirmed that the workshop aims to enhance knowledge in the field of space biomedicine. The workshop will cover several key topics, including physiological adaptation in space, the effects of microgravity and cosmic radiation on human vital organs, the utilisation of telemedicine technologies to support astronauts, in addition to future developments in this promising domain.
This workshop represents a unique opportunity for researchers, medical students, and specialists in health and sports sciences to acquire advanced knowledge from reliable scientific sources. Participants will receive accredited certificates from the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), as well as certificates from BSA, AGU, and ICESCO.
