Omani students studying at the Arabian Gulf University celebrated the 54th Omani National Day, which falls on November 18 each year, with the presence of Mr. Yaqoub Mohammed Al Ma’shari, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Consular Affairs Officer.
During the festivities, students from the University expressed their highest gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, the Supreme Commander, praying to Allah the Almighty that this occasion and similar ones return to His Majesty with abundant health, happiness and longevity, and to the Sultanate of Oman with prosperity and progress.
Additionally, Prof. Waheeb Al Nasser, Vice President of the University for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, delivered a speech on behalf of His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of AGU. In his address, he commended the deep historic ties between the Gulf countries and the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, emphasising that the enrolment of Omani students since 1980 at the university serves as a testament and a living model demonstrating the depth of these historical ties. He expressed his pride in the graduates from the Sultanate, who have been exemplary ambassadors for their country during their years of study at the university and represented it with distinction in various medical, educational and leadership positions after graduation.
For his part, student Nizar Ismail Al Balooshi delivered a speech on behalf of the Omani students at the university, addressing his fellow students: “You are the hopes of Oman, its repository of aspirations. You have been sent to carry this heavy trust back to Oman, to earn that elevated status. Oman awaits from you what a traveller in the darkness of night hopes for from the dawn”.
He further assured them that the students would return to Oman after years of separation, laden with knowledge of which they would be proud, and a good reputation that would accompany them throughout their lives.
He also expressed gratitude to AGU, particularly to the President, for the support, facilitation and provision of all the necessary facilities for the students, as well as for the Kingdom of Bahrain, which has become a second home for all Omani students at AGU.
The celebration featured an introductory exhibition about the Sultanate of Oman, showcasing traditional foods, information and images related to the customs and traditions, and highlighting the achievements gained and continuing to be realised through the vision of its wise leadership and the dedication of its loyal sons and daughters.
