Students in the fifth cohort of the Clinical Master’s Program in Family Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Arabian Gulf University, have successfully completed their first-year final exams. This achievement represents an important step in the program’s mission to provide the healthcare system in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries with medical professionals qualified to international standards.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Hani Shehata, Head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, noted that the program is considered one of the leading programs in training family physicians, as it focuses on developing clinical and professional competencies and enabling physicians to provide high-quality primary health care in line with best practices. He also emphasized the distinguished and essential role played by family medicine consultants in the Kingdom of Bahrain in sharing their specialized expertise and enriching the training experience for the program’s students.
For her part, the program coordinator, Dr. Naira Sarhan, explained that the curriculum aligns with internationally recognized standards and aims to prepare physicians capable of working effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. She emphasized that the program’s continued popularity reflects its distinguished reputation as one of the region’s premier training programs. She added that the program continues to contribute to the healthcare system by graduating professionals capable of meeting the growing health needs of the Gulf community.
For their part, the trainee physicians, in their final assessment, expressed pride in the qualitative transformation they had experienced in their professional development, emphasizing that the first year was a milestone in strengthening their clinical confidence and developing their clinical skills. They noted that the program successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional practice, enabling them to provide comprehensive and sustainable care centered on the patient and their family.

The program consists of two years of intensive hands-on training and is internationally accredited by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA). It is also recognized by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) and is supervised by a select group of family medicine consultants. Training takes place at primary health care centers and government hospitals throughout the Kingdom, ensuring that trainees gain comprehensive clinical experience. The program focuses on providing a state-of-the-art learning environment that employs the latest teaching and medical assessment methods, while adopting a trainee-centered approach to the educational process and utilizing modern technologies to track their progress and develop their professional skills.
