Students of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Department at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) commemorated International Nurses Day with an interactive exhibition attended by His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of AGU, alongside his deputies, a number of department heads, and academics from various departments within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The student-led exhibition featured diverse booths showcasing the history of nursing in Bahrain and its vital role in supporting the national economy through investment in nursing professionals. The event also highlighted distinguished figures in nursing who have made significant contributions to the field of health at the global, Gulf, and Bahraini levels. In addition, the exhibition provided an overview of the various nursing specialties and their impact on elevating the healthcare system.
In this context, Dr Hawazen Rawas, Head of the BSN Department at AGU, commended the considerable efforts exerted by nursing professionals across hospitals and health centres in the GCC countries. “Nurses form the cornerstone of the healthcare system, playing a pivotal role in enhancing community health and delivering compassionate and professional care to patients under all circumstances,” she commented.
Dr Rawas further said: “The theme of this year’s International Nurses Day, ‘Our Nurses, Our Future – Caring Nurses Strengthens the Economy’, reflects the importance of supporting this vital group and highlights their exceptional contributions, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges faced by the healthcare sector, both locally and globally.”
She affirmed that “the nursing profession represents the backbone of any successful health system, and those working in this field are the beating heart of healthcare systems. Their efforts contribute to improving quality of life and boosting economies through community care and the advancement of public health.”
Dr Rawas also praised the outstanding efforts of the nursing students in ensuring the success of the event, which was met with widespread engagement and commendation from all attendees. She emphasised AGU’s commitment to graduating qualified nursing cadres that meet the needs of the healthcare sector in the region, through advanced educational programmes focusing on developing clinical skills and up-to-date knowledge for nursing science students—empowering them to be effective partners in raising the standard of medical services in the near future.
In addition, the university hosted activities of the Bahrain Nursing and Midwifery Society as part of its International Nurses Day celebrations, where society members delivered lectures and scientific discussions on the importance of nursing in the national economy and its role in supporting healthcare sustainability.
