
AGU Signs MoU with the CPSP to Enhance Research and Academic Cooperation

His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of Arabian Gulf University (AGU), recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prof. Mohammad Shoaib Shafi, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan (CPSP). The MoU aims to bolster collaboration in various research, academic, and administrative fields, including academic exchanges, interdisciplinary research, and innovative educational initiatives. This partnership is expected to open new avenues for scientific discovery, enrich educational experiences, and advance medical training.
The signing took place during an official visit by a delegation from CPSP, which included several administrators and academic staff members. This visit demonstrates the steadfast commitment of both institutions to promote scientific research and innovation, while providing long-term benefits to the medical community, both locally and internationally. The agreement is set to enhance academic and research cooperation, thereby elevating the standards of medical education and professional excellence in the region and beyond.
Key components of the memorandum include collaboration on joint research projects, academic supervision of graduate and postdoctoral programs, international networking activities, and initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, the MoU encompasses student and faculty exchange programs, examiner exchanges, curriculum development, and capacity-building efforts through joint workshops, seminars, and conferences. It will also support clinical fellowship programs at King Abdullah Medical City.
On this occasion, His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid remarked, “The signing of this memorandum with CPSP marks a significant step in enhancing our academic and research efforts. This partnership will foster innovative educational initiatives, strengthen collaboration, and elevate the standards of medical training. It will pave the way for new scientific discoveries, enrich the experiences of students and faculty, and drive tangible progress in the healthcare sector, establishing a lasting model of global excellence.”
He further explained that the memorandum will facilitate the advancement of scientific research and innovation, enhance educational curricula, enable faculty and student exchanges, and support joint conferences, training workshops, and international medical events.
Prof. Mohammad Shoaib Shafi, President of CPSP, expressed his honour in signing the MoU during this significant visit. “This agreement with AGU is a pivotal step toward fostering academic cooperation and enhancing medical training through collaborative research initiatives and the exchange of cadres and students. We are dedicated to promoting innovation and excellence to yield substantial benefits for our community and the broader medical sector,” he stated.
He added that collaboration with AGU represents a crucial advancement in strengthening relationships between educational institutions across the Gulf region, the Middle East, and Asia. He expressed enthusiasm for this fruitful cooperation with a university renowned for its academic excellence, noting that the MoU aligns with both universities’ commitment to deepening academic and research collaboration to improve educational quality and develop scientific solutions for contemporary challenges.
