AGU President Participates in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States in Riyadh

His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), participated in the Golden Jubilee celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS). The event was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Riyadh Province, and was attended by Their Excellencies the Ministers of Education from the member states, alongside a distinguished group of educational leaders, experts and representatives of regional and international organisations.
On this occasion, Dr Al Fuhaid extended his sincere congratulations to ABEGS, commending the Bureau’s pioneering role since its establishment in 1975 in supporting joint Gulf educational action and strengthening integration among the GCC states in the fields of education and learning, in line with the region’s aspirations for a more advanced educational future.
His Excellency further affirmed that over five decades, ABEGS has served as a leading platform for educational decision-making and a highly regarded Gulf centre of expertise. He underlined that the Bureau has contributed significantly to the development of educational policies and curricula, enhanced the exchange of expertise, empowered educational leadership, and reinforced shared Gulf identity and values through high-impact programmes and initiatives.

The celebration also witnessed the signing of several strategic partnership agreements with regional and international institutions, as well as a visual presentation highlighting the Bureau’s journey and achievements over the past 50 years. In addition, His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Saud Al Muqbel, Director General of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, delivered a keynote address in which he emphasised the Bureau’s role as a beacon of Gulf cooperation in education. He noted its contribution to establishing specialised centres, including the Arab Centre for Educational Research in Kuwait, the Arab Centre for Educational Training in Doha, and the Educational Centre for the Arabic Language in Sharjah. The event also marked the launch of the Bureau’s new strategy through to 2030, focusing on accelerating digital transformation, developing human capital, and supporting research- and data-driven educational policies.
