
AGU President Congratulates Prof. Randa Hamadeh on Winning the King Hussein Cancer Research Award

His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Professor Randa Hamadeh, a consultant at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at AGU, on receiving the King Hussein Award for Cancer Research in the “Lifetime Achievement” category for the regional track of 2024.
Prof. Hamadeh was selected from among 13 Arab scientists and researchers residing globally, out of a total of 472 applicants from over 20 countries, in recognition of their contributions to cancer research for the years 2023 and 2024.
Dr Al Fuhaid expressed his happiness at this scientific achievement attained by Prof. Hamadeh in the field of cancer research. She was honoured just days ago by Prince Talal bin Mohammed, representing His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan. He wished her continued success in her scientific achievements, awards, and research.
On this occasion, Dr Al Fuhaid stated, "Professor Hamadeh's receipt of this award is a prestigious accomplishment that adds to the series of achievements by the academic staff in the field of medical education at the Arabian Gulf University.”
He expressed his pride and appreciation for her ongoing research contributions aimed at enhancing and sustaining the healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf region.
It is noteworthy that Prof. Randa Hamadeh’s recognition comes in appreciation of her significant contributions to the fight against cancer. She holds a PhD in Community Medicine from the University of Oxford, a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the American University of Beirut. Since 1991, she has served as a Professor of Community Medicine and Consultant at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at AGU. She has played a key role in integrating public health issues into the medical curriculum and in establishing and implementing postgraduate programmes in health.
Prof. Hamadeh is also one of the founders of the Anti-Smoking Society in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Her scientific output includes 195 published papers, which have been cited over 106,561 times to date. Consequently, her scientific output and its impact have earned her an H-index of 57. She has worked as an expert, consultant, and coordination officer for various organisations, including the World Health Organisation, the Bahraini Ministry of Health, and several academic institutions.
Additonally, Stanford University has ranked her among the top 2% of scientists in the world in 2024, 2021, and 2022. In 2021, she was honoured with the title of “Best Scientist at the Arabian Gulf University”, as well as “Best Scientist in the Kingdom of Bahrain”, according to the Alper-Doger Scientific Index.
