A team of medical students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently participated in the International Family Medicine Conference and Exhibition held in Dubai. They presented their research findings through a poster titled “Dietary Practices and Lifestyles Among Type 2 Diabetics in the Kingdom of Bahrain”.
The group comprised fifth-year medical students Fatima Al-Kufi, Lujain Al-Rumi, Budoor Zainal, and Fatima Shams. Their research was supervised by Dr Fatima Habbash, Senior Consultant in Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, alongside Dr Hanan Humaidan, Consultant in Family Medicine and Diabetes.

The findings underscore the importance of enhancing nutritional education and promoting healthy lifestyles among individuals with diabetes. The research stresses the need to incorporate nutrition and lifestyle consultation into routine diabetes care, which can lead to improved blood sugar control, reduction in chronic complications, and overall better quality of life.
Dr Fatima Habbash affirmed that AGU plays a leading role in supporting regional research and innovation, adding that the students’ active participation reflects the university’s dedication to building capacities that contribute to the development of medicine and healthcare within the Gulf.
